Hey, I'm NedIn 2016 and 2017 respectively, I lost my Dad and Mom to cancer. In the process of planning their funerals I discovered something about myself.
I hate obituaries. A collection of facts assembled by a grieving family member that doesn't truly give me insight to who someone was is not how people should be remembered by Google after they've passed away. As I planned the memorials for my parents, people kept asking me what I was going to say in my remarks. As I started to piece together the words that would help me heal, and help bring catharsis to those in the room there to honor my parents, I realized just how important a eulogy can be. It's a weird thing to say I have a "favorite" part of a funeral, but every one I've ever been to I remember the eulogy and nothing else. They always move me, and either speak to the love I felt for the deceased, or give me better insight into the person's impact on the world. I love eulogies, and I wish the world had more access to them. So I set out to make that happen. Every episode I and a guest will introduce you to someone who's passed away. Someone you should know. Then you'll get to hear the eulogy delivered at their funeral. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always we'll celebrate those who've gone before us. |
